The main issue I have is that it doesn’t address the short comings of Windows XP and compromises far too much for the sake of backwards compatibility. For example, Microsoft knows the unsafe API calls, they listed them all when they released Windows XP SP2 - why didn’t they remove those API calls in Windows Vista, and provide backwards compatibility in the form of a virtual machine running Windows XP?
No offence taken :) I guess it depends on where I locate the quicktime window when I record the video; some of the time I have it in the middle, where as with the later video, I had the window closer to the top of the screen, thus I look like I’m looking into the camera.
True, I tend to look at the screen because I want to make sure I’m not doing any weird mannerisms etc. I guess its a lack of self confidence more than anything else :P
I am actually hardly old enough to remember the change over to XP but I have been researching this subject of changing over from one Windows OS to a newer one and this is really less of a phenomenon then a easily predictably event. While obviously the fine details of what your saying is a Vista local event nearly all of them are homologous to complaints that every OS is given, i.e. the need to update to a better set of hard ware and the … continued below
I have both, so I need to confess, when i’m into the mood of using itunes, looking at some cute interface and doing some basic stuff, I’ll use my mac. When i need to get serious and hang on photoshop, Maya, flash, audio editing tools, i will certainly use my Vista. Macs are very limited to me.
need to update to a better set of hard ware and the loss of a lot of things you thought of as the core of Windows. Really while you can throw a bunch of words that the average viewer of this video will not understand the simple truth is that we “timid” windows users like our system for it’s reliability (with the right experience) and its familiarity (which some cynics could reduce to saying a stagnant and non-evolving product). No patches. yet again look above
Your biggest problem is your buying Windows computers from the likes of HP. Build your own computer using quality hardware. I upgraded from XP to Vista 64 bit and have seen a huge improvement in my Adobe products because my system can now use all my memory.
What most people don’t take into account is that Apple is a closed eco-system. If Windows did as Apple and said we no longer support apps before Vista and you have to upgrade your comp to a 64 bit system people would get a more fair view.
While you are welcome to have your own opinion, you are wrong. I work in a large computer retail store and I get more customers saying that they are happy with Vista, than are unhappy with it.
In fact, recently I’ve had customers come in wondering why people keep ragging on Vista.
The facts are simple. It is 5-6 years newer than XP and thus is going to be a lot bigger. It’s has much more security and maintained compatibility with 90% of XP compatible hardware and software.
You’re right, also a lot of the problem is that also the fact that many of these OEM’s load them to the gills with crapware. The problem that I have with Windows is the operating system; I can’t stand it because it is so limiting. The CLI is just plain cruddy, the bundled applications with Windows are still using circa, in some cases, win 3.11 calls (eg. font add/remove dialogue in Windows Vista as an example of it). Windows, top to bottom is a problem child Microsoft is unwilling to fix.
